‘Y’ Loses cz Friend, Leader

Peterson, a high level administrator at Brigham Young University whose funeral services will be held Thursday, was a modest, humble man; yet with leadership abilities that carried him to the top in many endeavors in which he became engaged, Prior of his 34-year career at BYU he taught at North Sanpete High School and Weber and Dixie Colleges and headed the business department at the latter institution. At the ‘Y’ he began teaching in the College of Business and rose to the position of administrative assistant to the last two BYU presidents. Dr. Peterson held many other key BYU positions including secretary to President Franklin S, Harris; associate registrar; director of the summer school for many years; and head of public relations. His leadership was impressive in church work, to which he gave long and faithful service as a branch president, bishop, president of two stakes, mission president, and regional representative of the general authorities, A master teacher in his field of business education, he was chosen president of the Western Business Education Association, member of the national advisory board, and president of the Utah Business Teachers Association. Aside from his leadership and teaching abilities, Dr. Peterson was a genial, kindly, likeable man with a great capacity to make friends and influence people. As his skilIful leadership will be missed at BYU, so will his quiet example be missed by his many friends and associates.
