\"Click<\/a>The Delta Arts-Literary Section of the Women’s Council of Provo will hold its annual Honor Night on Wednesday at the Women’s Cultural Center, 310 W. 500 N., Provo.<\/p>\n

The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. Honored will be N. LaVerl Christensen, former editor of “The Daily Herald,” (now Editor Emeritus), and Mrs. Ora Burrup, past president of the Provo Women’s Council, and a Provo artist.<\/p>\n

In addition to these presentations, there will also be a musical selection, and refreshments will bc served.<\/p>\n

The event is an open session to\u00a0which all sections of the Women’s Council\u00a0are invited, along with family\u00a0members of\u00a0those to be honored.<\/p>\n

Mrs. Noal K (Lillian)\u00a0Hatch is chairman of the event, with several others\u00a0of the section\u00a0who are helping with refreshments.<\/p>\n

Irene Mitchell is serving as this year’s chairman of the Delta Arts-Literacy Section.<\/p>\n

N. LaVerl Christensen was editor of “The Daily Herald” for\u00a030 years, retiring in 1979. Since then, in the capacity of editor emeritus, he has served as a writer-columnist for the Herald and other Scripps League newspapers, part-time since 1983.<\/p>\n

In his years as a writer and editor. “Chris” has been a strong booster of Provo and\u00a0Utah Valley and their interests.<\/p>\n

His\u00a0public service has included leadership positions in church,\u00a0civic,\u00a0educational and patriotic organizations, including four years as a member of the governor-appointed Snow College institutional Council.<\/p>\n

He authored a book on Provo’s Tabernacles, published in 1983\u00a0by East Provo Stake.<\/p>\n

He has received a number of awards and recognitions\u00a0including the National American Legion Fourth Estate Award and the Provo Freedom Award, sponsored by the Fourth of July Freedom Festival.<\/p>\n

Ora Burrup is an active member of the\u00a0Artist’s Section of the Provo Women’s\u00a0Council.<\/p>\n

She has served\u00a0as chairman of the Artists Section and president of the Women’s Council, and is also a member of the Utah valley Art Guild.<\/p>\n

After graduating from BYU, she was the librarian at Wasatch School in the Provo School District.<\/p>\n

She has worked in all the ward and stake auxiliary organizations, of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.<\/p>\n

She and her late husband Percy E. Burrup served an LDS Mission in the Nauvoo, Ill. Mission, and\u00a0worked\u00a0in the Provo LDS Temple.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
