LaVerl Christensen today was awarded the Ameica&#8217;s Freedom Award, the highest of nine honors given by the Freedom Awards Committee. Master of Ceremonies Howard J. Ralf made the announcement today at a honors luncheon at the newly remodeled Sil&#8217;s lvy Tower restaurant.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">Christensen, editor emeritus of <em>The Daily Herald<\/em>, has been called Utah County&#8217;s senior patriot, recognized for his stimulating and thought-provoking editorials, \u00a0patriotic speeches and service projects. It is said he always looks at both sides of every issue, but there are no two sides to his patriotism, said the awards committee.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">As editor of <em>The Daily Herald<\/em>, he received a prestigious National American Legion award in 1981 for a series of articles he wrote during the Honor America period. The series was carried on pages of many of the 30 Scripps League newspapers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">Christensen&#8217;s honors include two George Washington Honor Medals presented by the Freedom Foundation of&#8217; Valley Forge, and the Good Citizenship Medal of the S0n&#8217;s of the American Revolution.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">Previous recipients of the Americas Freedom Award were Dallin H. Oaks and Herald. I. Hansen in 1982 and 1983 respectively. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\"><strong>Outstanding Man Award<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">Myron J. Fulrath received Uris year&#8217;s Outstanding Man Award.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">Fulrath was born in Illinois, and educated at Dubuque University and the University of Chicago. He worked for U.S. Steel in Chicago for 15 1\/2 years and eventually came to Utah Valley where he was employed at U.S. Steel Geneva Works for another 15 1\/2 years. He retired in 1967 as Assistant Superintendent of Personnel Services.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">Among the many honors Fulrath has received is the 25 Year Award for the Red Cross for volunteer work.<br \/>\nFulrath has devoted time and energy to such groups and organizations as the President&#8217;s Council for the United Way, R.S.V.P. program, Freedom Festival Board of Directors, Utah Safety Council, Red Cross, Girl Scouts, Rotary Club. Provo Chamber of Commerce and the Community Congregational Church. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\"><strong>OUTSTANDING WOMAN AWARD<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">The Outstanding Woman Award was presented to Dr. Jenniev J.
