The municipal elections are rapidly creeping up on us. in Provo, the only city of the second class, the deadline for filing candidacy for the two positions open in the Nov. 4 election is Sept. 15. Thus, it’s time for good men and women to step forward and become candidates if the election spirit is to be generated in any significant degree. One of the attitudes presupposed in our system of government is that people indeed will offer their services. With somewhat of a dearth of candidates at the moment, we hope that citizens will encourage qualified persons to toss their hat in the ring. The two positions up for grabs are: Provo City Commissioner for four-year term; and city auditor, also four-year term. Both incumbents Commissioner M. Wayne Hillier and Auditor H. Blaine Hall – have indicated intent to run again. Two other candidates have entered the city commissioner race thus far. They are Blaine L. Houtz and Dr. Ken Larsen. The holdover commissioners are Mayor Russell D. Grange and Commissioner E. Odell Miner. Nominating petitions are available at the office of the city recorder at the Provo City Center. Petitions require signatures of at least 100 registered voters who reside in the city. They must be submitted at the recorder’s office by 5 p.m. on the 15th. Potential candidates take note: Time is fleeting rapidly.
