Ground-breaking for the $2.5 million “Osmond Studios” on a 31acre tract in Orem Wednesday was an auspicious occasion – and persons close to the project hail it not only as a cultura boon to Utah Valley but for its economic potential as well, Attesting to the drawing power of the Osmond family which has gained fame in “show business,” a crowd of more than 2,000 tumed out for the ground – breaking at the site at 800 North between 1200 East and about 1400 East in Orem. The air was electric with anticipation as fans glimpsed the entertainers who have chosen the Provo – Orem area not only for their home but as a base for professional operations. A spokesman for the family said the “Osmond Studios” will be the site for taping the “Donny and Marie Show” and indicated that the studios eventually will provide jobs for some 250 local residents. Among the speakers were 0rem’s Mayor James Mangum and Mayor Russell D, Grange of Provo, each of whom saw the ground breaking as the start of big things to come, The economic and cultural implications range far beyond the boundaries of Orem City. Indeed the entire valley stands to benefit in the long rim. Earlier, an Osmond spokesman said the singing family thinks the 77,500 square – foot production complex will be comparable to any facility on the West Coast. Donny and Marie Osmond – top stars of the highly – rated television show – were very much in the limelight at the ground breaking. But others were there too, and each has contributed toward the positive image the family has created in this country and internationally. The family is to be complimented for its achievements. The rise from a humble beginning to such prominence is in t e best American tradition, and the road to success has been paved with courage, hard work and development of generous talents. Mr. and Mrs. George Osmond, parents of the singing family, have been somewhat in the background, but it was they who provided the initial inspiration and training and caught the vision of potential for their family in the “big-time.” They are still very much part of the team. Now, members of the Osmond family have demonstrated their faith m Utah Valley and in an ambitious new project. They are hoping their studios will serve as a catalyst to promote Utah for movie making and develop local talent. Their dream is worth sharing by all of Utah Valley. And judging by past successes of the Osmonds. the potential is promising.
