Click to see original imageAnyone who has followed the progress of the Pittsburgh – Des Moines Steel Company (PDM) in Utah Valley cannot help being impressed at its growth and widening operations in the West. PDM bought the Hammond Iron Works at Provo in 1959, and has demonstrated its faith in this area by expanding its plant and its business as a steel fabricator. The new office building of the company has 16,000 square feet of space and the new shop area doubles the old space, with 170,000 square feet for steel fabricating operations. The Provo plant now houses the engineering division and the plate sales division of the western region. It fabricates steel for 13 western states in the West, including Hawaii and Alaska. You get an idea of the scope of the PDM operation when you understand that the company makes such massive items as giant water and oil tanks, nuclear containment vessels, pressure vessels, and coal handling plate work. The company, which is preparing for anticipated growth and expansion in the mountain area and entire West, has plants and offices in more than 20 cities in the nation. The Herald joins in congratulating the firm and its personnel on the newest expansion.
